Winter's mantle of snow in the high Sierra is the source of much of each year's San Joaquin Valley water supply. KRWA participates in the California Cooperative Snow Survey by measuring snowpack water content at eight remote Kings River watershed locations on February 1 and April 1. This data is vital in predicting the river's spring and summer runoff, managing water supplies wisely and guarding against possible flooding.
