At the heart of the Kings River's water rights are schedules of water diversions. There are 12 such schedules, one for each month of the year. They all detail exactly how much water every one of the KRWA member units is entitled to receive and divert based on each day's calculated natural flow (the amount of water that would have been in the river if there weren't any dams).
Here is a representation of the water entitlement schedule for the month of May, typically one of the biggest months for runoff from melting snow. It shows representations of entitlements for each unit based on natural flows of 1,000, 4,000 and 8,000 cubic feet per second. Based on the schedule, the KRWA's staff determines exactly how much water each unit is entitled to receive.
